Task Start Times & Inline Quick Actions
Set a Start time and Opens gate so members can't complete tasks early
Two recent Tasks updates make accountability tighter for officers and faster for members. Officers can now control when a task is allowed to be completed, and members can act on most tasks in a single tap without ever opening them.
For officers: Start time and the Opens gate
When creating or editing a task, you can now set an optional Start datetime — the time the task can physically begin — along with an Opens time that controls when members are allowed to mark the task complete.
By default, Opens is one hour before the Start time — you can choose 1, 2, or 3 hours before Start, or set a custom time. Start and Opens apply to member tasks; group tasks are due by a single deadline and don't use them.
How to set it up
- Create or edit a task as an admin or author.
- Below the Deadline field, set the Start datetime for when the work can begin.
- Opens defaults to one hour before Start. Choose 1, 2, or 3 hours before, or a custom time, depending on how early members should be able to check the task off.
- Save. Before the task opens, members cannot mark it complete.
What members see before a task opens
In the My Tasks list, the action is locked and shows when the task unlocks (for example, "Opens Jul 5, 9:00 AM"). On the task detail page, a notice explains the same thing and the completion buttons are disabled. This rule is enforced on the server, so it cannot be bypassed.
Recurring tasks
Start and Opens work for one-off and recurring tasks. Each recurring occurrence shifts its own Start and Opens to match that occurrence's deadline, so you only configure the schedule once.
For members: inline quick actions in My Tasks
You no longer need to open a task to act on it. In the My Tasks list, each task row shows a one-tap action based on what that task requires of you:
- Mark complete — for a simple task, tap once to complete it.
- Upload & complete — when the task requires a file or photo, the picker opens right in the list so you can attach it and finish.
- Respond to poll — when the task is linked to a required poll you haven't answered, tapping jumps straight to the poll. Completion stays blocked until you respond.
Tasks that are already completed or awaiting approval simply show their status instead of an action, so you always know where each item stands.
Frequently asked questions
Can a member complete a task before it opens by using the detail page? No. The Opens rule is enforced on the server, and the buttons are disabled in both the list and the detail page.
Is setting a Start time required? No. Start and Opens are optional. Tasks without them behave exactly as before.
Do I have to open each task to complete it? No. Most tasks can be completed in one tap from the My Tasks list. You only land on a separate screen when the task sends you to a required poll.
